Donations for the Spanish youth

The youth of southern Germany are helping the youth of Spain. 30 young New Apostolic Christians from the congregations of Ensingen, Horrheim and Sersheim (Apostle district of Stuttgart, New Apostolic Church southern Germany) have put 1,500 Euros together, which will go towards helping their Spanish brethren in faith to travel to the European Youth Day in May 2009.

The youth of the three congregations have been saving the money since the beginning of 2008 to finance their participation, travel and accommodation. At the start the youth generated many ideas between them, of which several were realised throughout the year; for example a joint congregational festivity in June 2008, collecting scrap paper and producing handicrafts at an Easter market.

Problems with financing travel

The youth read later in one of the editions of the church magazine “Spirit” that many of the youth of neighbouring countries would financially not be able to take part in the European Youth Day in Düsseldorf. Many simply could not obtain the money to travel.

As a result, they made contact with the Spanish youth, so that the youth from southern Europe will be able to fly to Düsseldorf. Any other form of transport would have taken too long. The flight time alone is between two and four hours and that costs money, for some that is more than their parents earn in one month.

1,500 Euros for the Spanish youth

Thanks to the youth of southern Germany all is not lost for those with less to be at the European Youth Day in Düsseldorf. The sum of 1,500 Euros was handed over to Apostle Erhard Suter (New Apostolic Church in Switzerland), who has responsibilities for the brethren in Spain. This sum is the majority from the joint youth fund raising ventures.

In other church districts also, money for the youth of other neighbouring European countries is being gathered to assist with their travel. In the New Apostolic Church of North Rhine-Westphalia, the youth are working toward financial assistance for the youth from eastern Europe. All takings from the action “Youth help youth” in 2008 until May 2009 will go toward supporting the youth who are travelling to the European Youth Day in Düsseldorf.
