The fifth meeting of the planning committee

485 days before the European Youth Day (EYD), the members of the planning committee met for the fifth time for the central decision meeting in Dusseldorf. Within view of the exhibition halls where the program of 2009 will take place, on the 22nd and 23rd of January 2008, the project groups renewed content discussions and important fundamental decisions.

The focus of the presentations for these two days was the planning group ‘contents and music’. Those responsible have in the meantime confirmed most of the program points and allocated them to the various halls to construct a preliminary sequence of events for the two exhibition days. The group leaders of ‘contents and music,’ Apostle Edmund Stegmaier and Apostle Hans-Juergen Bauer, introduced the various plans for contents and musical events in the various halls. These plans should be published in the 2nd half of 2008 when everything is finalised.

Implementation of ideas

In the coming months the project groups must embark on the rollout and implementation of all the submitted plans and ideas. The many plans that were contributed help in the basic formation of stand requirements for the exhibitors to do their work; all the stands, stages and recreation areas are constructed according to each group’s requirements. In February, the project group ‘Messe’ (exhibition) will discuss the detail of the plans with the exhibition construction company to implement the ideas.

This is how in the coming weeks the many sketches and plans will change to concrete architectural drawings and eventually turn into stands and stages in the exhibition hall in Düsseldorf for 2009.

Registration commences May 2008

Another point of the meeting: The registration procedure. This should start in the summer of 08. The youth and their youth leaders should register in groups On-line. The respective district churches will provide the information needed for this. The fee for the participation of the event, which will be published in the coming weeks, will be due in January 2009. Registrations can continue up to the end of January 2009.

Information campaign

In 2008 the Youth Day planners began a European information campaign. It began on the 6th January in the New Apostolic Church Northrhein-Westphalia. The representatives of the project groups made a presentation and explained the various contents. The presentation by the ‘communication’ project group will be made public in the first half of the year to all the respective district churches, so that all youth are informed of the actual events and times of the EYD. In addition to that, many things are planned for this year’s youth day in the respective district churches. Furthermore, from the information group, ‘spirit’ monthly articles and reports will appear in the ‘Our Family’.
