1000 accommodation places

Friday 28th September, 9.35pm, ‘Ping! You have mail!’ And what sort of mail! Bookings for the accommodation places 998, 999, 1,000 and 1,001 appear on screen. The e-mail comes from Essen, in the congregation of Essen-Schonnebeck. Heike and Frank have sent their booking form from there. They’d like to take in four participants of the Youth Day. Fantastic, this brings great joy to the project team who takes care of accommodation for all participants.

“Even if we are still a long way away from the set goal, to provide at least 6,000 beds in private accommodation – we are heading in the right direction,” says District Evangelist Helmut Manthey, leader of the project group (PG) Accommodation. Since those in charge, in all 18 districts offering accommodation, set to work, the number of registered vacancies in private accommodation is constantly rising, Helmut Manthey reports further. “Those responsible in the various districts make use of all possible ways of communication to campaign for more overnight accommodation.”

As forms for registration are centrally collected within the congregations, the project group anticipates another influx of registrations at the end of October. Manthey adds, “We set a deadline for registration for the end of October, that’s the reason for expecting the greatest number of entries at this time - then the postman will have a job and a half!”
